China’s Parliament adopts country’s first law against domestic violence
China’s Parliament has adopted the country’s first law against domestic violence that prohibits any form of domestic violence, including psychological abuse. The legislation was approved at the end of a week-long bimonthly session of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, the top organ of China’s parliament. Key facts

Union Government announced 4 new IT-based initiatives for citizen-centric health services
Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare J P Nadda on 25 December 2015 announced 4 new Information Technology-based initiatives to provide citizen-centric health services.
The initiatives include three applications, namely, Kilkari, Mobile Academy and M-Cessation and a dedicated toll free number 1800-11–6666 which will provide round the clock counselling and treatment support services for TB patients.
The initiatives were announced on the occasion of the Good Governance Day which is being celebrated annually to mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Biocon launched generic version of hepatitis-C drug Harvoni in India
Biocon Limited on 24 December 2015 launched the generic version ofhepatitis – C drug in the Indian market. The generic version of the drug named Harvoni will be sold under the brand name CIMIVIR-L.
The generic drug Harvoni is an improved version of Gilead’s hepatitis-C drug Sovaldi or sofosbuvir and will come in fixed-dose combination of ledipasvir-sofosbuvir of 90mg and 400mg, respectively.
The sale of ledipasvir-sofosbuvir combination was recently approved by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), which is being manufactured in India under a license from Gilead.

Former CJ of Karnataka & Kerala High Courts Justice VS Malimath died
Former Chief Justice of Karnataka and Kerala High Courts Justice V S Malimath died on 22 December 2015 at Manipal hospital in Bengaluru.
He was 86-years old and survived by wife Prema Devi V Malimath, a son and four daughters.

Veteran actor Sadhana passed away
Veteran Indian actress Sadhana died on 25 December 2015 in Mumbai, Maharashtra after a brief illness. She was 74.
One of the top actors of the 1960s and 1970s, Sadhana is remembered for her powerful performances in hits like Hum Dono,Love in Simla, Mera Saaya and Waqt.
Born on 2 September 1941 in a Sindhi family, the legendary actress first appeared on silver screen as a chorus  girl in the song Mur mur ke na dekh mur mur ke in Raj Kapoor's Shree 420.
Sadhana was introduced as the lead actress along with her iconic hairstyle in her 1960 romantic film Love in Simla.
Sadhana was the highest-paid actress in Hindi cinema during 1962–1965. Her fringe haircut became popular during the 1960s and came to be known as Sadhana cut.
