Naval Exercise IBSAMAR 2016 between India, South Africa, Brazil kicked off in Goa

The fifth edition of IBSAMAR 2016 trilateral naval exercise between Brazil, India and South Africa kicked off in Goa. IBSAMAR is abbreviated as of India-Brazil-South Africa Maritime. This is the for the first time the exercise is held in India as all the previous editions were held in South Africa since it began in 2006

India’s first nuclear submarine INS Arihant passes deep sea tests

India’s first indigenously built nuclear armed submarine INS Arihant has successfully passed several deep sea diving drills as well as weapons launch tests. These successful tests undertaken off Vishakhapatnam coast where the submarine was build. These tests makes it ready for formal induction into the Naval Fleet

India to host 3rd Asia Ministerial Conference on Tiger Conservation

India is going to host Asia Ministerial Conference on Tiger Conservation from 12 April 2016 to save tigers. It will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It will the third such conference on tiger conservation to be hosted by India that will see the participation of all 13 tiger range countries (TRCs). They are Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Russia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Rare Falcated Duck sighted in Goa

Birdwatchers for first time have sighted Falcated Duck in Goa which is considered as rare vagrant migrant bird species to the south of India. Earlier the bird was sighted two times in southern parts of India away from its natural migratory habitat in North India. For first time it was sighted in Tamil Nadu in 2012 and second time in Akola (Maharashtra) in January 2015.

World’s 1st fast-acting Anti-Rabies drug to be launched in India

World’s first fast-acting anti-rabies drug Rabies Human Monoclonal Antibody (RMAb) will be launched in India. The drug has been developed by Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII) and US-based MassBiologics of the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

India continues to remain the world’s largest arms importer, accounting for 14% of the global arms imports in the 2011-2015 timeframe. It was revealed by report on international arms transfers released by a global think-tank, Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).

Nobel peace prize 2014 won by Kailash Satyarthi and Malala Yousafzai

On 10th October 2014, an Indian and a Pakistani national was awarded Nobel peace prize for 2014. 
Kailash Satyarthi of India and Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan were awarded the Nobel peace prize 2014 jointly for showing great personal courage and in their struggle against the suppression of children and for the right of all children to education. 

Aamir Khan appointed as the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia

On 9th October 2014, Bollywood actor Aamir Khan was appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF in South Asia. He will be focusing on supporting child nutrition to end stunting across the region. He was appointed as Goodwill Ambassador on 25th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). 
UNICEF promotes the rights and wellbeing of every child in 190 countries and territories.
