Jaitley blames hotheads for deflecting from devpt theme

Finance minister Arun Jaitley on Monday admitted that irresponsible statements by saffron hotheads hurt the party's campaign in Bihar by deflecting from the main theme of development.

Maggi back in 100 cities; not in Delhi yet

Five turbulent months after it was banned, Nestle re-launched Maggi on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras on Monday .The instant noodle brand Maggi staged a comeback in 100 cities and towns, with over 300 stockists hoping to regain the trust of its clientele. Maggi was also being sold through Snapdeal, an online platform. But it's not yet available in eight states, including Delhi and Maharashtra.

Lord Paul's son & CEO falls to death in London

Angad Paul, the youngest son of NRI industrialist Lord Swraj Paul, died after plummeting from his penthouse in central London on Sunday .Angad, 45, educated at MIT, was the CEO of the diversified Caparo group founded in 1968 by his father.He suffered massive injuries after falling eight storeys and was pronounced dead on the spot by paramedics. Angad is survived by his lawyer wife Michelle, their two children besides his mother Aruna and Lord Paul, an India-born UK-based business magnate and philanthropist.

Air quality likely to be worse this Diwali

Compared to last year, air quality is likely to worsen this Diwali due to the prevailing weather conditions and may intensify due to concentration of pollutants from firecrackers. The forecast prepared by the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) under the Union ministry of earth sciences (MoES) mentions that air quality will be in the “severe“ category .Experts have advised people to take preventive measures to minimise exposure to such conditions by reducing physical activity outdoors.Those with heart or lung diseases, elderly and children should remain indoors on Diwali night, reads the health advisory.

Govt's Diwali gift: 6-lane elevated road opens today

In what is being seen as a Diwali gift for commuters heading towards congested Azadpur Mandi and Wazirpur Industrial Area, the Delhi government will throw open a 2.1km elevated road for smooth flow of traffic on Tuesday .The six-lane AzadpurPrembari Pul Road (on Ring Road) promises to reduce the otherwise tedious drive by 12 minutes. As pollution is a key concern in the capital, PWD is trying to project this as a green corridor. It claims that the elevated road will help save 7,665 kilolitres of fuel (costing Rs 46 crore at today's price) annually , bring down carbon dioxide emissions and combat noise pollution.

No 8-coach trains on three corridors Metro struggles to make space for all

If you've been feeling claustrophobic while travelling on Delhi Metro, this might explain why: on three of the six corridors in the network, only four and six-coach trains run. Eight-coach trains run only on the Blue and Yellow lines. This is despite the fact that some of the corridors have been extended.




All OROP demands cannot be fulfilled, says Parrikar

With military veterans continuing their protest against what they say is “a diluted, lame-duck“ one rank, one pension (OROP) scheme notified by the government, defence minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday said everyone in a democracy had the right to make demands but not all of them could be fulfilled.
N-capable 4,000-km-range Agni-IV test successful

In some pre-Diwali fireworks over the Bay of Bengal, India successfully tested the nuclear-capable Agni-IV missile, which has a strike range of 4,000-km, from the A P J Abdul Kalam (formerly Wheeler) Island off Odisha coast on Monday.The user trial by the triService Strategic Forces Command (SFC), which saw the two-stage missile being fired from a mobile launcher at 9.45 am, met all mission parameters, said officials.

Rahane is `A' star now

India batsman Ajinkya Rahane was given the thumbs-up by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as he was promoted to Grade A in the list of centrally contracted players for 2015-16. However, struggling middle-order batsman Suresh Raina slipped to the B category .Others in the Rs 1-cr contract were limited-overs captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Test captain Virat Kohli, and leading off-spinner R Ashwin. Harbhajan Singh, not included in the list last season, got a Grade C spot.
